How to work with Homeostasis: Part 2

There are many old wives tales and home remedies for curing hiccups from holding your breath to swallowing a glass of water. But have you ever heard of dry swallowing one teaspoon of sugar?  It may cure your hiccups, but it is definitely not the healthiest way to do it!

Or have you ever been told that eating carrots will help you see in the dark? While it is true carrots contain vitamin A,  needed to make a pigment in your eyes which works in dark conditions, eating more carrots will not help you see better than any healthy person in the dark. This myth dates back to World War II. The RAF actually issued press releases saying British pilots were eating lots of carrots, giving them excellent vision at night. It was done to stop the Germans discovering that Britain was using radar technology to shoot down enemy planes!
