How to work with Photosynthesis: Part 1

Without photosynthesis taking place in plants, we would not have any food to eat. There are many more amazing facts about plants – here are just a few.

• An average size tree can provide enough wood to make 170,100 pencils!
• The first type of aspirin, painkiller and fever reducer came from the tree bark of a willow tree!
• 85% of plant life is in the ocean!
• The Amazon rainforest produces half the world’s oxygen supply!
• The tallest tree ever was an Australian eucalyptus – In 1872 it was measured at 435 feet tall!
• Tree can live for a very long time. The oldest tree in the world, a Basin Bristlecone Pine, was almost 5000 years old. These trees have adapted to living at high altitudes with thick bark, protecting them from diseases and insects.
• There are some trees which have been to the moon!  In 1971, hundreds of tree seeds travelled on NASA’s Apoll0 14 mission to the moon and back.
