How to work with Enzymes: Part 1

Brain

There are about 700 enzymes active in the human body, and every second, around 100,000 chemical reactions occur in the brain!

Without enzymes living organisms could not function at all. They allow reactions to occur in milliseconds that could otherwise take millions and even billions of years.  The reaction required to turn DNA into RNA would take 78 million years to complete alone without the aid of enzymes.

GCSE scientists- you need to be able to explain how enzymes work. If you need some help with this, try Part 1 of our new guide “How to work with Enzymes”. It includes information on how enzymes work, and how different factors affect enzyme activity. There are also questions for you to try, alongside answers to check your understanding.
